Josh Stephens is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter who found his passion for music in an elementary school performance. When he was 18, he moved from Lakeland, Florida, to Nashville, Tennessee, to attend Belmont University. While there, he majored in Music Business with a minor in Songwriting.
In 2020, he graduated with his degree in Music Business and continued to focus on his personal and musical growth. While he was grateful for the experiences of his education, he realized that real-world experience was the best teacher.
“You can teach somebody how to theoretically interact with people but it’s one of those things […] that you’re never going to be able to learn it from a book. You just have to go out and do that.” And that’s what he’s doing!
Moving to Nashville isn’t easy, though. When asked what advice he would give to others wanting to move to Nashville, he suggests developing thick skin. “Take people’s advice, you know, listen to it, but take it with a grain of salt. [And] somehow learn to be okay when someone doesn’t like something or criticzes you,” and realize that everyone has the right to their own thoughts.
