American Idol Winner, Then And Now: Kris Allen, The Interview

Everybody knows who Kris Allen is. If you don’t, he was the winner of American Idol for their eighth season. I got the chance to meet up with him at the City Winery in Atlanta on the second from last day of his tour, which would finish in Nashville, Tennessee.

During our interview, Kris and I talked about variety of topics. Some of those topics included his music, a car accident he was in, his kids, as well as his record label that he was apart of.

Music and Tour

Kris’ first single after winning American Idol was “Live Like We’re Dying”, which he sang at his Atlanta concert. His first album following American Idol was self-titled, “Kris Allen.” Over the past ten years, Kris has gone on to record five more albums. His newest about, “10” was released in September 2019 with the 10 Years 1 Night tour that followed.

The tour began on October 2nd in Cambridge, Massachusetts and ended on November 23rd in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Some of the other tour stops in between included, Chicago, Metro Atlanta, Denver, Portland, and Seattle. He toured in a total of about 15 states during that time.

On March 28th, Allen is going on tour with American Idol alumni , David Cook all over Europe. They will be starting the tour in the Salt Lake City area.

Family

The “Live Like You’re Dying” star enjoys his family time, and he was inspired by his own dad. Kris has wanted to be a father since he was a teenager.

Kris’ kids are still a little young to go out on the road with him, but he said that at some point his kids could join him on tour, and that would be fun because they love going to shows. For the last few years, Kris has spent most of his time devoted to his kids, which is why shows have been few and far between.

Both of Kris’ kids have distinct personalities. His son, says Kris, is more careful, sweet, and opinionated. He likes structure and is a builder and creator. He is good at music, but Kris doesn’t know if he’ll want to pursue it. Kris says that his daughter is a firecracker. She’s very strong-willed and independent. She wants to do everything on her own, even simple tasks that she isn’t quite ready for, like putting the dishes away and trying to get into the car by herself.

Fans and Social Media

Kris Allen’s post-American Idol success has been astounding, and fans can’t wait to see what will be next. In between music releases and tours, Kris can be found on Instagram, where he recently hosted an ugly sweater contest, one of the three entrants, a super-fan named Linda, who as of December 2018 had attended 90 of his shows won the ugly sweater contest that night.
