Amber DeLaCruz Gets Inspiration from Life and Tragedy.

Video Editing done by 10:31 Productions

I met up with Amber DeLaCruz in October 2018 when she was performing in Port St. Lucie, Florida at Chillin’ on the Lucie. It was an all-you-can-drink music festival with dozens of artists that came out to perform.

Even If

When I met up with her, we talked about her music, which included the song “Even If”. It’s a true story about DeLaCruz being sober for a year as well as death. She also talks about an accident. Amber went on to say during the interview that “there wasn’t any kind of intervention to her getting sober. [She] was just tired of being tired and sad.”

“Even If” came about because she met her cowriter Jami Grooms at a bar called Losers where her friend – Jacob – introduced them. At some point during the night, Jami asked what she was drinking, and she said that she was just drinking water.

During their conversation, Grooms asked why she doesn’t drink and Amber stated that she used to drink everybody out of the bar. He was curious why she stopped drinking and she said that she would sometimes drive home and not remember the drive. She got into an accident and totaled her vehicle and didn’t even tell her parents about it. She left that accident without a scratch. Her brother-in-law got into an accident four days after she did, and that incident was the catalyst to her slowly getting her act together .

DeLaCruz said, “I was torn after my brother-in-law’s accident. I would just hate for my mom to get a phone call from somebody she doesn’t even know that something happened to me. I saw how torn she was with my brother-in law. I just [can’t] imagine what would happen if I put myself through something horrible like that, and it was totally my fault. My mom just couldn’t handle that.”

Songwriting

We talked about how her songwriting sessions go. She has ideas that are completely ridiculous in her head, but sometimes she just needs people to help her figure it out. She is famous for hooks, and sometimes she has beats or melodies too.
